Approved counselling and psychological care for family members

In some instances counselling and psychological care (CPC) can be approved for members of your family who are impacted by your experience of abuse.

If you were living in Queensland when you accepted your offer of redress, you can ask the Redress Counselling Program Team to arrange up to 20 hours of CPC for a member or members of your family. A total of 20 hours of CPC may be provided to one member of your family or shared between two members of your family (it is 20 hours for your family—not 20 hours per family member). Once your family has used the 20 hours of CPC, no additional hours can be approved for them.

You will need to complete the Family Member Access form to get approval for your family members to receive CPC. This form also records your permission for the Redress Counselling Program Team to set up CPC for them. When you fill out the form, specify how many hours of CPC you want each family member to be able to access, such as 20 hours for one person or 10 hours for two people.

Once you have completed the Family Member Access form, the Redress Counselling Program Team will contact your family member/s to confirm whether they want to use the CPC hours. If they agree, the team will make arrangements directly with them to receive the CPC hours.

The CPC services family members receive are confidential. You won’t get any details about these sessions or be told who they are seeing. You will be told how many hours they have used.

If you accepted your offer of redress when you were living in a different state or territory, you can find out who to contact  about whether family members can access CPC on the National Redress Scheme website.
